This CD was wonderful. It arrived promptly and in mint condition. The music is fabulous and most probably will endure forever.
The kids did a great job, but no one can stir the emotions and the imagination as well as Zero and his crew. The music has run through my head since I saw "Fiddler" in 64, and two other times in community theaters. When my grandson landed a role in an acting camp production, I wanted him to hear the original. The words are poignant, the presentation is superlative and the repretroir is entertaining. The disc remains in my car player, and I often dream of what I would do "If I Were a Rich Man."
The only reason I purchased it on a CD is because my original copy was on an 8 track tape cassette. This CD is one of my all time favorites. I just love the music. I'm so glad that I can now enjoy it again. I would recommend this highly.
The Broadway cast recording is fine, but if you really want to get a sense of Tevye, his character, personality and warmth, purchases the London recording with Topol--it and he are magnificent. And vocally (both spoken and singing) Topal if FAR superior to Zero Mostel.
I chose Fiddler for my students' spring musical, and always like to get the original cast recording to help give me an idea of the original idea for the pieces in the show. This recording definitely delivers, and the interview with Sheldon Harnick at the end is an extra treat. Awesome CD.
